Portal Launches Game Discovery Hub and Wallet to Tackle Crypto Gaming Challenges
Coin prices are getting a lot of attention lately, especially with recent developments in the crypto gaming space. The SCENE Portal made waves earlier this year with its launch of the PORTAL token, which became the fifth-largest gaming token launch of 2024. Alongside that, they also had an airdrop.
Now, just a few months later, this crypto gaming project is rolling out its wallet and game discovery hub. It’s an exciting time for gamers and crypto enthusiasts alike.
The crypto gaming industry is growing, but it still faces some hurdles. One major issue is how games are scattered across different networks. It seems like a new layer-2 gaming network pops up every month!
To address this, the Portal Wallet supports 20 Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) chains. This includes popular gaming chains like Immutable, Ronin, and Xai, as well as Ethereum and general-purpose scaling networks like Arbitrum and Base. This wallet aims to make it easier for players to switch between different chains.
Another pressing issue is game discovery. Crypto games often struggle to get players on board. For example, the leading PC gaming marketplace, Steam, has banned NFT and crypto games. The Portal Hub aims to bring all these games together in one place, making it easier for players to find what they’re looking for.
Ezra Strauss, the General Manager of Portal, shared, “Web3 has this problem: there are plenty of things to find, but many are hidden.” He pointed out that trust is a big concern due to security issues, and there are also many low-quality games out there.
The Portal Hub wants to help players avoid those low-quality titles. At launch, over 200 games will be featured, promoted through data analysis and team recommendations. They want to ensure that players have a good experience right from the start.
Looking ahead, they have a vision that focuses on community involvement. Strauss explained, “Right now, we’re taking feedback to find the best games. But ultimately, we want community-driven content discovery.” This means users who hold PORTAL tokens will have a say in what games get featured.
The PORTAL token launched on Ethereum back in February with a lot of excitement. It quickly reached a market cap of $561.6 million, making it one of the biggest launches of the year.
However, as of now, the market cap has dropped to around $70 million, which is a trend we’ve seen with many gaming tokens that peaked earlier this year.
Although there isn’t a set timeline, the team is working hard to allow token holders to participate in curation. Importantly, you don’t need to hold PORTAL to use the discovery platform, and featured games don’t have to be compatible with the wallet.
Strauss confirmed, “At release, games in the hub won’t have wallet integration.” However, he added, “We’re excited about the interest from partners. We expect to have the first few wallet integrations available soon.”
